Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adjust the chain tension?

Remove the spark plug lead. Loosen the two clutch cover nuts, if necessary. (NOTE: It is important to loosen the clutch cover nuts before turning the chain tension adjuster, otherwise the clutch cover and tensioner will be damaged). Hold the bar nose up and turn the adjuster screw clockwise until the chain fits snugly against the underside of the bar. Tighten both nuts with the bar nose held up. Pull the chain around the bar by hand. Loosen the adjustment if you feel tight spots. When the chain is properly tensioned, tighten the clutch cover nuts securely approximately 20 to 23 N.m (200 to 230 kgf.cm). It is imperative to keep the chain properly tensioned at all times for safety and maintenance purposes.
